Over the Net or Through It?...How about BOTH?!?!

Today's post is written by Jr. Forward Brittany Vavao-Huggins:

Hello! My name is Brittany Vavao- Huggins and I am a junior from Fayetteville, AR. I have been given the amazing opportunity to not only be a member of the women’s basketball team but I am also a member of the volleyball team.

The one question that everyone asks me is “Which sport is your favorite?” To be honest, if I had a favorite, I would have chosen just that 1 sport to play in college. As I was growing up I loved playing basketball, I loved playing volleyball, and I loved mixing it up by going from one to another. The thing that I really love is the ability to be a part of two amazing families that are just as passionate about the game as I am. The most remarkable thing about being a Lion is that each athletic program is willing to put forth everything necessary to succeed and to be everything that we can be.

Right now I am going through an intense two weeks of preseason volleyball. We have 2 and sometimes 3 practices a day. Each practice our team gives the coaches all we can so that we are one step closer to being the best in our conference. Due to the changes our team is going through (for instance the volleyball team has a new assistant coach) it is vital that our team comes to practice with an open mind. What we are doing now is trying to master the basics. Many times teams will practice the basics and get bored with it or sometimes think that they know what they are doing. However, each team, no matter the sport, should practice the basics till you have mastered it and then keep practicing it because that is what makes you a better athlete.

I am extremely excited to get this year started! I am very anxious to see what each team will do! I am ready to wear the green and gold and represent Missouri Southern to the best of my ability. I appreciate you taking the time to read our team's blog (don't forget to follow us on Twitter!!)and I hope that you will come out and support us!

Until next time...It's a GREAT day to be a LION!!

This week's post is written by Sr. Shooting Guard Jolea Apon:

Hi, I'm Jolea Apon, Sr. shooting guard from Springdale, AR. This is my second year as a Lady Lion as I was a JUCO transfer from Carl Albert State College last year.

I know many of our staff and players have covered this, but I wanted to say a little something about camps. Camps were very successful and I enjoyed every minute of it. The kids were GREAT and I loved spending time with them!!!

This year will be quite different for me because, for the first time in my career, I'm a returner! For the first time I have to be a leader and not a follower. I know what it's like to come into a program and not know what's going on, so I know exactly how the incoming freshmen and JUCO transfers will feel. I should really be able to help the new players with their transition into the program and the MIAA.

I have a lot of passion for the game (during games you can constantly see me waving my arms and yelling "get up!!") and I am really excited for the upcoming season. This is going to be a totally different year with only 4 returners. I am really glad that the "freshman crew" were willing and able to stay and workout for the summer. We all bonded really well and it will show when pre-season starts.

Thank you for reading. Hope to have your support this year and hope to see you at the games!! =)

Until next time...It's a GREAT day to be a LION!!
